Cbi energy audit

What is a home energy audit?

We at CBI like to call it an energy survey.

An energy survey is an assessment of how much energy your home consumes. It can give you the answers you need to evaluate how to make your home more energy efficient.

These assessments can show you problem areas, that when fixed can save you big money!

We Know How to Lower Your Bills

The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that 50% of the country’s energy consumption is used for home heating and cooling.

With that said, it’s no surprise why homeowners are constantly looking for ways to improve their energy efficiency and trim down their monthly bills.

CBI offers a full energy survey, which we guarantee can solve your problems rather than mask them.

Unlike many other inspection services, we aren’t offering or selling any additional energy services or products. Therefore, we really are just here to help you find solutions to your home issues.

What You Should Know First

Tools

For the audit we will use a variety of resources such as:

  • Telescoping ladder
  • Blower door
  • Manometer
  • Watt meter
  • Digital probe thermometer
  • Draft gauge
  • And even soap bubbles!

Each of these items will allow us to assess your home’s efficiency.

Home energy survey

The first of two parts in our audit is a visual inspection, not including the use of diagnostic equipment.

We will assess the general energy performance of the home and address comfort complaints like visible moisture issues and visible health and safety issues.

General energy audit

The second part of our audit allows for more detailed information about your home’s energy usage, as well as a more thorough financial analysis.

We will utilize diagnostic testing and special instruments to determine where and how many leaks are in the building.

We will even check the effectiveness of the insulation in walls and ceilings, and any existing or possible combustion safety issues.

How You Can Prepare

If you’ve scheduled an energy survey there are a few things you can do beforehand to ensure a smooth and efficient audit:

  • Have the last 12 months energy bills handy
  • Make a list of existing problems (may include visible condensation, drafty rooms, or even odors)
  • Know the average thermostat setting during summer and winter
  • Prepare wood-burning stove if you have one—you should remove any ashes before we arrive!
  • Be present – we will need easy access to areas such as your attic, basement and crawl spaces.

Benefits of an Energy Survey

If you’re willing to make the changes we suggest, you can save up to 30% on your energy bills! Additionally, our energy surveys can detect any possible safety hazards to ensure that your home is safe and in working order for your family.

We can help you with the ins and outs of an energy survey by answering any questions or making suggestions. Give us a call and usually we can provide a quote over the phone.
